LTO Car Registration Renewal (rehistro) insurance, car plate sticker, requirements and how to apply

Apart from the service of the Land Transportation Office for driver's license renewal, another most-sought after service is the renewal of car registration or what drivers call "rehistro ng sasakyan". This is a yearly event that car and motor vehicle owners will have to go through in order to get car plate registration stickers. This enables the LTO to distinguish which cars running in the streets have updated and renewed car registration.

Last week, I came to learn being a new car owner that there is a 3-year grace period wherein you won't have to bring your car for stencil submission as well as emission testing. This only applies for the first 3 years of the new car but the exceeding years ahead is when the owner will have to both apply for renewal of car registration where the same owner will be asked to bring the physical car for check up on emission test and stencil of the body number / chassis number. Another part of this process is the renewal of insurance but this part is where I am not really sure. Anyway, here goes for those who might be on their way to renew car registration in 2012.

Insurance works on bodily injuries and if you have an insurance provider such as comprehensive insurance attached to your car, you will have to get the COC certificate of coverage. You can get it to the third party insurance company with which your car's comprehensive insurance is attached to. In case you don't have car insurance, you will be asked to pay for Php 800.00 (+plus) for your bodily injuries insurance. To save on this one if your car had comprehensive insurance, ask for more details in the nearest LTO branch or go to your insurance provider.

If you are asking what are the requirements in application of car registration renewal, there are only 2 which is the OR / CR - previous / last or latest registration official receipt (how much you paid for the last car registration renewal) and the certificate of registration.
